Labor Prep

Preparing for birth is as much mental and spiritual as it is physical. These are the books, programs, and local providers I leaned on to feel grounded going in.

The longer story. If you want how I put it all together, I wrote about how I prepped for my unmedicated birth over on the Intention Holistic Health blog.

Programs & Apps

The mind-body training I used to prepare my nervous system for labor.

Hypnobabies

Childbirth Hypnosis Course

A full hypnosis-based childbirth preparation program. The somatic and mental rehearsal it builds in is the closest thing I've found to actually training your nervous system for labor. The link below goes to the Birth Essentials Bundle (full course plus three free tracks) that I most often recommend.

Pregnancy & Postpartum Program

The same app I followed for movement also shaped how I approached the physical side of labor prep — pelvic floor work, hip mobility, and the strength to recover well on the other side.

Christian Hypnobirthing

App

For the seasons I wanted my labor prep grounded in scripture and prayer, this app pairs hypnobirthing-style relaxation with faith-rooted affirmations. A different on-ramp to the same nervous-system work.

Books

The reading list I keep coming back to. Linking to Neighbor Books, a local-to-DFW shop, while I sort out my full bookshop setup.

Aviva Romm

The Natural Pregnancy Book

Aviva is one of the very few voices who can hold real clinical depth and an integrative, herbal, whole-woman lens at the same time. The pregnancy reference I came back to constantly.

Faith-Filled Childbirth

The companion read to the app for me — a Christian framework around the same calming, mind-body labor prep. Helpful for women who want their birth prep to feel like worship, not just technique.

Birthing From Within

Less how-to, more inner work — a guided exploration of the fears, expectations, and stories you carry into labor. The book I'd hand to anyone who wants to be prepared in a deeper sense than logistics.

A gentle, traditional-wisdom guide to nourishing the mother through pregnancy — recipes, rituals, and a permission slip to slow down. The companion read I wish more women were handed in their first trimester.
